Killian, who has strong family ties to Troy, begins his first season as an assistant coach with the USC men's volleyball team after being the Trojans' starting middle blocker in 2001.

Killian, 22, also coaches the Southern California Volleyball Club girls 16s team.

Killian, who started 15 matches at USC as a senior after transferring from Pepperdine, was a 2001 All-MPSF honorable mention selection. He was third on USC in blocks (52) and aces (29) while getting 104 kills (hitting .346) and 28 digs. He was 13th nationally in aces average at .460 (ninth in the MPSF at .434).

He started at middle blocker as a junior for 2000 NCAA Final Four participant Pepperdine and earned 2000 All-MPSF honorable mention honors. He led the Waves in hitting percentage at .465 (sixth nationally) and had 303 kills, 47 aces, 134 blocks and 69 digs. He tied for fifth nationally in ace average (.495). He was sixth in the MPSF in both hitting (.451) and ace average (.415). He was particularly effective against USC in his career, including hitting .800 with 16 kills and 5 blocks in the MPSF semifinal match.

He started at middle blocker for Pepperdine as a sophomore in 1999. He led the Waves with a .455 hitting percentage and registered 193 kills, 118 digs, 93 blocks and 9 aces.

He was primarily a reserve middle blocker and backrow defensive specialist as a 1998 freshman at Pepperdine, which was the 1998 NCAA runner-up. He had 26 kills (hitting .467), 34 digs, 13 blocks and 2 aces.

He was a 1997 All-CIF Division I first team, All-Mission League Co-MVP and Volleyball Fab 50 team honoree as a senior at Loyola High in Los Angeles (Calif.). He traveled to Italy in the summer of 1997 as a member of the U.S. Boys Youth National Team.

He comes from a family of Trojans: his father, Don, was a member of the 1977 USC NCAA championship men's volleyball team (he lettered in 1976 and 1977); his sister, Lauren, is a sophomore opposite hitter for the Women of Troy (they played in the 2000 NCAA Final Four and made it to the NCAA Pacific regional final in 2001) ; his uncle, Doug, lettered at Troy in 1982 and 1983 (the 1982 team finished third in the NCAAs); and his mother, Chris, is a USC graduate, along with a grandmother, two grandfathers (both played basketball at USC), a great grandfather, 2 other uncles, an aunt and numerous cousins.

He is finishing work on a bachelor's degree in sociology at USC. Born on July 13, 1979, he is single.
